Re: “Jeffrey Mine backers face headwinds” (Gazette, July 31).
In light of the recommendations of the Joint Policy Committee of the Societies of Epidemiology, which called for a global ban on the mining, use and export of all forms of asbestos, the $56-million loan offered by the Charest government must be immediately withdrawn.
There is no longer any doubt that asbestos invariably causes disease and premature death, and that continued use of this deadly chemical can lead to a public health catastrophe.
Quebec cannot afford to play the role of the devil in this asbestos deal.
